Auditions & Rehearsals

Lovely Lee

SHOW:   Lovey Lee
WRITTEN BY:   Moses Goods
DIRECTED BY:   Francis Tau’a
PRODUCED BY:   ProArts Playhouse and Maui OnStage

Based on the true story of one Hotel Street prostitute’s harrowing journey chronicles the highs and lows of 1970s life on the outside of convention, and written by Maui’s own Moses Goods, of NCIS: Hawaii and Jason Momoa’s upcoming, Chief of War.

Hawai‘i in the 1970s.  A time of reclamation, discovery, and pride.  For Lovey Lee, a young queer Hawaiian, the 70s is about finding a place where they can just be.  With Hawaiʻi’s cultural renaissance at its peak and with the sexual liberation movement booming throughout the nation, there is perhaps no better time to explore life, identity, and freedom.  But the journey of any brave pioneer is often complicated and fraught with challenges.  In this coming-of-age story, Lovey finds themself journeying from their safe island home to the invigorating streets of San Francisco to the dark alleys of Hotel Street and back again in their search for place.

Lovey Lee debuted debuted at Kumu Kuhua Theatre on Oahu in 2021.

This Season we will be rehearsing shows for longer periods of time but with fewer rehearsals per week. We’ve found that this makes doing shows accessible for more people and allows people the time they need to work on lines at home.

For this show, we will have approximately 25 rehearsals spread over 7 weeks. We don’t rehearse more than 5 times a week. The final schedule will be determined based on people’s availability, so the schedule below is approximate.

  • April 22nd-ish through May 30th: Rehearsals at ProArts
  • May 25th through May 30th: Tech Week Please note that during tech week, rehearsal hours are longer.
  • May 30th: Preview performance for small invited-only audience
  • Possible (but unlikely) pick-up rehearsals to be scheduled during show weeks, depending on the schedule of the actors & need for pick ups.

Monday, April 22nd from 6pm – 9pm

NOTE: Please remember that, as stated above, this does not mean that rehearsals will take place every day of these potential days! These are simply our options! And the schedule may vary from week to week.

  • Potential rehearsal times: Sunday through Thursday Evenings ideally 6:00pm – 9:00pm and Saturdays from either 10:00am to 2:00pm or 11:00 am to 3pm
Day rehearsals are possible if that better suits the actors’ schedules
  • Cue to cue will take place on the Saturday before the show opens and will be anywhere from 4 to 7 hours long during the day, depending on our needs; food will be provided. PLEASE BE SURE OF YOUR AVAILABILITY FOR THIS DAY.
