About the Show
Running Time: 2 1/2 Hours including Intermission
The Conversion of Kaʻahumanu by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl brings to life a defining moment in Hawaiʻi’s history. As Queen Kaʻahumanu becomes Kuhina Nui following the death of Kamehameha I, she is faced with profound political and spiritual decisions that will shape the future of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
As the kapu system falls and new influences arrive on Hawaiian shores, the play weaves together seemingly differing perspectives to explore what is gained, what is lost, and what it means to lead with courage, responsibility, and love through times of great change. Told through a dynamic all-female cast, this intimate production reflects on transformation not only in the past, but in our present moment – inviting us to consider how we care for one another, honor ʻike kūpuna, and move forward together with intention and aloha.
