The play highlights Kūhiō’s role in Hawaiian history\, from his childhood and imprisonment in 1895 to his influential work in the U.S. Congress and the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. The play debuted at ʻIolani Palace in the fall of 2022. Kūhiō was a challenging and controversial leader. This play’s intent is to bring some of his moʻolelo to life in order to help audiences today in grappling with some of the tough issues faced around leadership and civics in their personal lives and in Hawaiʻi’s complex community.\n***Special low pricing made possible through the Pono Project.***\nABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT\nPlaywright and novelist Victoria Kneubuhl has used her writing as a way to share the history of Hawaiʻi. Her plays have been performed in Hawai`i and the continental United States and have toured to Britain\, Asia\, and the Pacific. An anthology of her work\, Hawai’i Nei: Island Plays\, is available from the University of Hawai’i Press.\nWhile writing is her passion\, she also sees it as a way to give something back. “One of the things that I really want people to know…who are from the islands or the Pacific\, is that our stories are so worth telling. If you write something that is heartfelt and genuine\, you are leaving a gift for your community\,” says Kneubuhl.\nABOUT COLLECTIVE PILINA THEATRE\nOur mission is to celebrate and amplify local voices by producing theatre that reflects the cultural diversity and heritage of our islands.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Pono Project\nThe Pono Project is a series of live arts and culture events celebrating the diversity of the Maui community\, promoting inclusion of marginalized persons\, and educating on Maui’s history and challenges\, bolstered by partnerships with other Maui nonprofits.\nThe Pono Project is supported in part by the County of Maui’s Office of Economic Development.\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ticket Information\nPremium Seating:\n$11 Premium (large cushy front-row chairs with small tables)\nPreferred Seating:\n$6 Preferred (front row of any seating tier)\nRegular Seating:\n$6\nPartially-Obstructed View Seats:\n$4\nFor information on our Access for All initiative\, click HERE\n \n BUY TICKETS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n [events-calendar-search placeholder="Search Events" show-events="5" disable-past-events="false" layout="medium" content-type="advance"]\n \n BACK TO UPCOMING
