The performance will feature music by Gershwin\, Porter\, Ellington and more\, all with the emphasis on straight ahead swing.\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Besides being a wonderful jazz pianist\, Tommy James is a composer\, arranger and music director having majored in composition at the Manhattan School of Music. He has been the pianist and music director of the Duke Ellington Orchestra for the past nine years and recently moved to Honolulu from his former home in New York. Over the years Mr. James has worked with a wide ranging group of artists of many musical genres. Among the outstanding artists and bands with whom he has performed and/or recorded with are The Duke Ellington Orchestra\, Lionel Hampton\, Joe Williams\, Maureen McGovern\, Cleo Laine/John Dankworth\, Nell Carter\, Marlena Shaw\, Roy Ayers\, Melba Moore\, Manu Dibango\, Billy Vera\, The Spinners\, and the Temptations. He has served as music director with the international tour of the Tony-award winning musical “Bring in ‘da Noise”. He has also been musical director for Dawn Lewis\, Doc Powell\, Bobbi Humphrey\, and others. Kapaliʻs Hawaiian roots will take you straight to the origins of “Kika Kila”\, or Lap Steel\, where Kapali was mentored under master steel guitarist\, Alan Akaka. In 2016\, Kapali’s guitar playing caught the attention of Gibson Guitars and he has been a signed Gibson artist ever since.\nKapali comes from a family with a long Hawaiian musical history and music was in his life since he could remember. He is the nephew of Hawaiian musical greats Buddy Fo and Mikilani Fo\, and his grandparents were well-known musicians and performers also\, who raised him with the mindset of music and ʻohana (family) from Waimanalo to Punchbowl\, where they played Country\, Blues\, Bluegrass\, and Hawaiian music together.\nIf you follow Kapali’s musical roots they will lead you to connections with so many musical trailblazers\, including; Joseph Kekuku\, Jerry Bird\, Hank Sr.\, Ry Cooder\, Chet Atkins\, Gabby Pahinui\, and many more.\nKnown for his soulful performances Kapali has opened for Artists like legend Robert Earl Keen\, Ron Pope\, and Howie Day. An artist whose abilities and style know few bounds\, Dayan is known for his soulful voice\, powerful songwriting\, and multi-instrumental prowess. “Dayan is perhaps one of the most complete and talented musicians . . . not only is he a dazzling multi-instrumentalist\, but also a soulful vocalist with a stratospheric range and a poignant songwriter who knows how to heal with his compositions.”\nBorn on Maui\, Kai grew up between Hawaii and California.
