DESCRIPTION:Barry Flanagan of HAPA & Anthony Pfluke TWO SHOWS!\n \n \n \n \n \n Saturday\, August 30\, 2025at 3:00pm AND 7:00pmRun time: 70 minutes with no intermission\n \n BUY TICKETS\n \n \n \n \n \n About the Show\nPresented by ProArts Playhouse and KPOA\nAfter their runaway hit shows earlier this summer\, HAPA’s Barry Flanagan and Maui’s own Anthony Pfluke return for a dynamic\, soulful pair of performances.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Artist\nABOUT BARRY:Barry Flanagan is a singer-songwriter\, musician and founder of the acclaimed World Music group HAPA. Flanagan is known for his guitar and songwriting skills\, vocal performances and ocean awareness projects. In 1980\, Flanagan moved to Hawaii to research and study the art of Kiho ‘Alu\, or Slack Key Guitar and Haku Mele composition. It was after hearing the music of American musician and film score composer Ry Cooder with legendary Slack Key master Gabby Pahinui that inspired Flanagan’s sojourn in Hawai’i to explore and learn these two art forms. Flanagan immersed himself in Hawaiian culture and art\, seeking out native speakers\, teachers and composers of Hawaiian songs\, passionately studying indigenous art forms with Maui as the backdrop. In 1983 Flanagan founded a musical duo on Maui\, naming it “HAPA\,” the Hawaiian word meaning “half” and also used to describe people of mixed Pacific Island ancestry. During the next 10 years\, to 1993\, Flanagan raised $125\,000 to write and produce what was described as “…a first-class recording that would change the way people out of the state of Hawai’i perceive Hawaiian Music.” (Lahaina News).\nABOUT ANTHONY:Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-nominated artist Anthony Pfluke is one to watch.\nBorn and raised on Maui\, Anthony has been rooted in Hawaiian music from an early age\, forging an original path that honors and perpetuates the music and culture of his home. That foundation is further deepened as he continues his studies in Hawaiian Culture.\nWith a sound that blends Hawaiian\, and contemporary influences\, he is recognized for his engaging performances on ‘ukulele\, 12-string and 6-string kīho‘alu (slack key guitar)\, and his soulful vocals.\nAnthony has performed across the Hawaiian Islands\, the West Coast\, and Japan. He has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Henry Kapono\, Amy Hānaiali‘i\, and Brother Noland. He has also had the honor of opening for musical icons Jerry Santos\, Keola Beamer\, Taimane\, and Josh Tatofi.\nFor information on our Access for All initiative\, visit the About section on our website. SUMMARY:Barry Flanagan of HAPA & Anthony Pfluke TWO SHOWS!
